Social Studies

As the need increases for students to understand about how our society works and as the demands of today’s world require global awareness, the importance of social studies education in our schools is underscored significantly. It is a challenge to educators everywhere and one that we take seriously, for with every challenge, comes the opportunity for growth. Under the leadership and guidance of a highly qualified staff, students enrolled in the social studies program of District 218 do, in fact, have that opportunity -- to discover and to learn about the world in which they live in an atmosphere which fosters wonder and excitement.

All students are required to take courses in Geography, US History, and US Government for graduation. As ninth graders, students will be placed in either Geography, Honors Geography, or AP Human Geography on the basis of standardized placement tests and prior educational background.
